ANNUAL ALUM BUM GAME
Every
autumn, two very significant things happen in Aggieland, the greatest homecoming
on earth and the Aggies engage in Fall baseball practice. The Alum Bum game
was created to give an opportunity to the alums of the baseball program, who
still think they can get it done on the field, a chance to compete against the
current Aggie baseball team, as an official Fall practice game. The Alum Bum
game is the second largest fundraising event that ABAA sponsors. Fans, families
of former players, and families of current players come out and have a good
time watching this annual fall dogfight.
2009 - On Halloween Eve, the Bums showed up to Ted Leonard
Field with a younger Alumni squad that was ready to compete. The Aggies played
well and took a 5-2 lead into the top of the sixth inning, when former Aggie,
now Alum Bum, and St Louis Cardinal minor leaguer, C.J. Beatty, hit a grand
slam to give the Bums a one run lead. The Bums held the 6-5 lead until the bottom
of the ninth inning when the Bums pitching staff ran out of arms. The Aggies
scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to finish the Bums off 7-6.
2008 – The inaugural Alum Bum game was played at Ted Leonard
Field with the current Aggies easily defeating the Alum Bums 10-2 in nine innings.
The Alum Bums hung close with the youngsters and were only losing 6-2 in the
6th inning, until the top of the 7th when the flood gates opened. The 08-09
Aggies put up four more runs, putting the game out of reach for the old-heads
who didn’t quite have enough gas in the tank to mount a charge with only two
innings remaining.
2007 – First Official Alum Bum game was rained out.
